Why doesn't Mesh have an internet assisted mode?

This might be something of a “religious” topic, but hear me out.

Totally get the point of this whole thing is to be Mesh, fully independent from any centralized infra. And for a great many things, I really get this, I do. But the truth is that most of us are internet connected most of the time. Yes it’s wonderful my GoTenna Mesh works without any centralized infrastructure. But the lack of ability to leverage it optionally is to the determent of the product.

Has the team considered a “super node” model where a subset of centralized (metro level) nodes are internet connected and, if the connectivity is available, would leverage it to relay messages to other nodes far further away?
