Anyone interested in collaborating on a relay node on Yerba Buena island (San Francisco)? The measure tool on GMaps tells me it’s ~3km from the Embarcadero shore, and its elevated position could provide a good relay point.
Side-note: I don’t know about the legality of putting a MOAN there, which could put an end to this.
I’ll look up the range using a aero chart and get back to you with more details, that sound like a plan? Than I can give you some good ideas. Need to sleep now BUT tomorrow for sures…
2 miles to SF, 3.5 to west Oakland. Rooftops line of sight should be easy (if you can find and get permission for the right roofs). If you go higher up the Berkeley hills could probably hit it. UCB stadium / tower about 7.5 miles.
3 seems quite doable. You’d just want more of 'em in dense areas but not sure if you’re going for full-on coverage everywhere or just the cool-factor of being able to communicate across the Bay
Keep in mind the 4 point maximum hop distance for mesh with current firmware. That means you want to optimize star patterns around high points (maximum point to point over length toward populated areas). I think someone will probably develop a fix for long links like this using the API and store and forward hardware
