It’s about 20’ off the ground on a 4000’ mountain. The valley floor is around 2500’. I routinely test this one (call it relay 1) on my way to work where I have good line of sight on relay 2 but a mountain is between me and relay 1. My message travels 20 miles to relay 2 which meshes my message pretty much back over my head to relay 1. Relay 2 is around 6500’ and about 25 miles from relay 1. The mountains make radio communications tough sometimes but can also be a great asset.
I’m not sure of your setting but the little bit of testing I’ve done in more populated areas haven’t shown near the extended range or reliability I’ve seen in the mountains.
I hope that makes sense!
